David will be the custodian of your images; bringing details to your shadows, texture to your highlights & vibrancy to your hues.
While completing his commercial photography qualifications in the early 90s, David Hobbs loved and connected with the process of image making, increasingly spending more time in the darkroom than behind a camera … it was here, in these quiet spaces filled with alchemical processing that he was able to find details and texture in the prints that others didn’t always see.
In pursuit of those details and textures, David took a different path to those of his peers, one that celebrated the image makers he had come to know. In collaboration, David has produced prints that are full of depth, detail and a sense of magic.
His path led him to Adelaide’s leading photographic imaging labs where he has continued to collaborate with photographers and artists, elevating their images since the mid 90s.
Having spent the last 15 years at arguaby, Australia’s premier photo imaging lab, he has cast his eye and alchemical hand over thousands of prints from photographic novices to Master Photographers and from commercial photographers to photographic artists.
David’s process is meticulous and defined by a genuine love for image making. He is the custodian of images and a guide towards an elevated materialisation of each photographer’s vision.
2020 bought changes for many; a year that marked a new direction in this Master Printer’s path … perched high above the city, now in Adelaide’s beautiful Epworth building, you will find David Hobbs, with no flashy displays or unnecessary bells and whistles – just a Master Printer and his specialised tools.
Drawing on his past photographic processing knowledge and his love for contemporary photographic imaging technology, he works with Epson large format printers, including the new Epson SureColour P9560, to produce museum quality, fine art archival prints.
